Taking Action

It is not enough for the HMA and other organizations to raise awareness of the hazards of exposure to asbestos and other hazardous materials our members and workers deal with on the job.

And it is not enough for us to provide them with the very latest safety training, or the most recent news on advancements in worker protection or healthcare advances.

Much still needs to be done through government regulations.

Municipalities can take immediate steps to lessen exposure dangers to workers, building owners, residents and neighbours when demolition or extensive renovations are carried out on buildings containing hazardous materials.

We are working with WorkSafeBC and the provincial government to pursue the certification of the training HMA provides for the safe handling of hazardous materials.
